                                                VUHS BAND

Dear Music Parents/Guardians:

A new school year will begin in just a short time and Mrs. Wolfe and I are excited about the new changes and challenges that we will face this year. We are looking forward to another great year full of great music and we hope you are too.

Our goal for this year is to continue on from last year with some minor changes. We will seek to keep many of the same events on the calendar including Valley Night Live, which will be March 31 – April 2, 2011.   In the fall, band rehearsals will be split into Pep Band rehearsal for football games and Concert Band for concerts. After football season, the Concert Band will continue to rehearse for VNL and concerts. In addition to Concert Band, I will be having sections perform at home basketball games.

We will be continuing with private lessons this year. Just like last year I will be teaching at least one Music Appreciation class which means I might have to schedule some lessons for after school. We realize that without this program the quality of our band would suffer greatly. Please be assured we will do everything possible to keep quality music as our number one priority.

We look forward to working with you and our young musicians. We are currently planning this year’s events and we would like your help in the process. The first parent meeting will be August 23rd at 7pm in the music room.    This year’s Valley Night Live theme is between Old TV shows or Jungle. By the end of the first week of school we will have our theme! Continued help and support this year will be essential to the success of this program.

Again, we thank you in advance for your support. Band WILL be in session on the first day of school, August 9 beginning at 7:15 am SHARP! Please bring your instrument on the first day. Miss Graham will be driving the band van again this year. If you need a ride or have any questions regarding transportation, please call me at 642-3492 Ext. 239 during the afternoon or at 616-648-8332 in the evening. Once I find out who needs a ride and where they live I will be making a schedule and I will be contacting you to let you know when I will be picking up your son/daughter.

Sincerely,
